The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is pleased to announce that the book "Good Public Governance in a Global Pandemic," from the IIAS Public Governance Series, has been referenced as a valuable source in the latest World Public Sector Report, published by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).  

The IIAS publication serves as a comprehensive resource, offering key perspectives on public governance that align closely with the governance themes and messages presented in the World Public Sector Report 2021.   

Chapter 4 of the United Nations report integrates research and insights from the IIAS book to examine the impact of the pandemic and government responses on national institutional systems, particularly regarding the delivery of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By sourcing valuable material on individual countries from the IIAS book, the report values the efforts of the IIAS network in understanding and analyzing the diverse range of government responses and situations during the global pandemic.  

The IIAS book draws upon the collaboration of numerous academics, scholars, and practitioners of public administration from around the world to shed light on the situations and evaluate the consequences of measures taken during different phases of the pandemic. By providing a substantial body of knowledge, it contributes to the discussions on public governance during times of crisis and highlights the IIAS's role as a source for evidence-based research to support the work of public leaders and administrators.

P.S. Reddy, coeditor of the book, reflected on its significance, stating, "The timing of the publication of the book was opportune as it was during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It provided a critique of the governance of the pandemic in both developing and developed countries. It also highlighted lessons that could be learnt internationally – both good and bad. The authors of the different chapters were established academics/researchers and senior/executive public functionaries, both officials and politicians. The book was a welcome addition to the literature and knowledge base on COVID-19 internationally, as it focused on the governance of the pandemic, rather than the medical or technical aspects of the contagion."
